Message from the Director
Dear Wabash Public Library Patrons,

I hope this message finds you doing well and feeling fine. There is a lot going on at the Wabash Carnegie Public Library, as always. First, we just wrapped up the Summer Library Program “Color Our World” which reached 526 readers who read a total of almost 600,000 minutes! 837 people attended 71 programs at the library!! The library circulated almost 24,000 items from June 1 through July 31!!! Libraries are more important than ever.

Second, thank you for over 300 responses to our library survey. Your feedback is a vital part of our strategic planning process in collaboration with ReThinking Libraries, we are getting closer to determining WCPL’s strategic direction for 2025-2030. Why strategic planning, you may ask? WCPL is required to have a long-range plan on file with the Indiana State Library to remain in compliance. Our focus recognizes that, from the ReThinking Libraries website, “Change occurs every day with shifting demographics, newer and better technologies, increasing real and virtual competition, not to mention, a somewhat uncertain financial outlook.” We are working hard to meet your needs!

Third, and finally, we are fast approaching the one-year anniversary of our grand re-opening on November 15, 2024. We welcome you to come visit WCPL if you haven't already, or even if you haven’t for a long time- please bring a friend! Everyone is welcome here! WCPL is free and open to the public with or without a library card. One of the biggest concerns we hear is, “I live out in the county, I have to pay for a library card and that’s not fair.” If you live outside of Wabash city limits, please speak with your township trustee or county council representative to encourage them to get started in making a county-wide library system for the benefit of all residents in Wabash County. A strong public library is good for the economy, good to grow Wabash and for building a community where people want to live, work and play, and good for the people who already call this place home.

I am grateful to have served this library and this community for the past year, and hope for the best for this library and this community well into the future. Please let us know what you think and how we can better serve you and the Wabash community. It is an honor to be of service.

-Jon, Executive Director of the WCPL
